Estée Lauder - Pure Color Envy Eyeshadow Wet/Dry - 26 Amber Intrigue

I am not someone who buys single eyeshadows often, generally I do prefer palettes and reflecting on my collection I can certainly say that I own pretty much everything I like and need.
As a beauty lover though I cannot completely ignore this whole category of products and I do add something new to my stash here and there, whenever I find something unique or exceptional.

Such is the story of the eyeshadow I chose to show you today. Pure Color Envy Eyeshadow is a fairly new line on the market, it grabbed my attention with the promise of intense pigmentation and  unseen before formula. They can also be used wet or dry, depending on the preference and desired look.
I have actually never had eyeshadows meant to be used wet, but the concept sounds intriguing and I had to see for myself how the texture changes and how the finish is.

In Sweden  Estée Lauder's Pure Color Envy Defining Wet/Dry Eyeshadow line offers 16 different shades in several different formulas and finishes - matte, brilliant, luminous and velvet.
Price wise I find them to be rather expensive at about 32 euro for 1.8 g of product.

I chose to buy Amber Intrigue - a gorgeous matte cocoa brown - I do not own anything else like it but at the same time it is universal enough and can be worn everyday several different ways.
Whenever I buy a more expensive make item, I strive to pick a shade that I know I am going to wear. I absolutely refuse to use something only at special occasions. Thinking about it now though, I would definitely recommend the more metallic and shimmery finishes, since I think they have a better representation of the true quality and formula of this product.

I own exactly 2 Estée Lauder products and I can't say I was too familiar with how gorgeous their packaging truly is. I enjoy the design of the compact but even beyond that, the quality of the material used to make it is just superb. They are luxurious, not too heavy, very clean and sophisticated looking. The opening and closing mechanism works brilliantly and as a whole the presentation really impressed me.

The compact also contains a rather useful mirror, which can be used if and when needed. A sponge tip applicator was also included, but since I am using this product for quite some time now, I already managed to loose it somewhere.

I have had the opportunity to test this eyeshadow extensively for already quite some time. I have tested it applied with a damp brush as well as dry one, combined with different shadows, by itself, with or without base.
I intentionally didn't clean the packaging before I took the pictures, since I wanted them to reflect how it truly looks like when used and even give you an idea of the amount of fall out that you can expect to have.

I was sure that I would love this product, I read several rave reviews which left me with a positive impression of it and I have never had doubts about how I am going to like it.
Sadly the reality didn't meet my expectations and I can say I do not think this product is something that new, unique or worth the money, at least not the shade I picked.

The eyeshadow has an interesting texture - very smooth and velvety but in a not traditional creamy buttery way. The powder itself is super finely milled and packed into the pan very tightly I would say. At first it looks like something that would be a little bit dry and hard to blend, but once the bristles of the brush touch the surface the texture automatically softens and sticks to the hair.
The level of pigmentation is absolutely amazing and stays onto the lid even after only one swipe, looking very intense.
The shade I own reminds me of cocoa and is so rich and complex. The application is very controlled with a minimum fall out. Doesn't move, gather or leave empty spaces on the eyelid.

L-R : Dry; Wet

Amber Intrigue looks pretty much the same way even when applied with a damp brush. There is a subtle difference which in my opinion doesn't justify the extra effort and unless I really pack it on, no one would ever even know that I did anything different. I do not see the pigment or intensity to be that much deeper.
The texture doesn't really change drastically either, I somehow imagined it to become more creamy, almost like a cream shadow, which didn't happen. I would still recommend to those who want to use the wet method to do it only on one side, so you are still able  to apply it dry whenever desired.

I mentioned that I love the colour and my intention was to use it combined with a brown pencil in order to achieve something like a daytime smokey eye, which I am a big fan of. I own plenty of other shadows (most of them much cheaper) that I can use in the crease or to deepen up a look.
I wanted the pigment to stay vibrant the whole time I have my eyeshadow on and sadly that was not the case. Immediately after application I start noticing the colour fading away and the initial vibrancy and intensity just doesn't look that great anymore. Only towards the eyelash, where I have applied a pencil the effect I wanted was achieved. On top of that after only a few hours of wearing, the eyeshadow started gathering in my socket, even with an eyeshadow base applied before. I do not have oily eyelids and this pretty much never happens to me.
Even when used wet, the fading is still present, although the gathering is not that prominent.

It works fine as something to blend other shadows with, but whenever used on the whole lid, it is simply not that great.

I am still not sure what the problem is and I keep trying to find a way for me to enjoy the shadow more, but so far nothing has worked.

L-R: Sleek Storm Palette; Urban Decay - Naked 1 Buck; Amber Intrigue, Inglot, Maybelline Color Tattoo - On and On Bronze.
I recently bought another shade called Magnetic Rose and honestly while it is definitely better quality and performance wise, I still don't think it is anything special. If you are curious about it, I can most definitely review it for you in the near future.
