H&M New Cosmetics Line - Haul, First Impressions and Short Reviews
22:41
A couple of months ago H&M released their new line of cosmetics which is predicted to consist of more than 700 items. I am glad the Swedish market was not neglected and we were among the first who had the opportunity to check it out.
As a whole I am left with the impression that Swedes do enjoy H&M's makeup and at least the women in my life all seem to have and use at least a couple of their products. I also own a few items which I tend to use here and there but I wouldn't call myself a fan or anything like that.
Once the new line landed on the shelves my curiosity prevailed and I found myself at the register with a bag full of things to try. In today's post I will tell you what I chose, how I liked it and what I would recommend you to try. I hope you will find the information useful.
Another thing worth mentioning is that the products are made in various European countries - a fact that definitely surprised me. None of the items I bought contain parabens, I am not sure if that is the case with all products in general but so far it seems to be.
The prices are decent, at least according to the Swedish standards, but it also depends on where in the world you live. Everything seems to cost between 5-10 euro, there are a few eyeshadow palettes that are around 13.
I was pleasantly surprised by the broad shade range - especially the lightest colours were very well represented.
All-Day Liquid Foundation - SPF 15 Flawless Finish is the only liquid foundation they offer, at least at this moment. I chose the shade Porcelain which if my memory serves me right was the second lightest available colour. The price of it is 99kr (10 euro).
It contains silicones and goes on smoothly on the face, rather evenly. It does settle a little bit in the fine lines and seems to cling onto some dry patches. It is nothing major but definitely something to consider if you have a dehydrated or very dry skin. It smooths out the pores and gives the face a perfect like satin finish. It has a runny liquid consistency and is indeed with a light texture as promised on the packaging. The coverage is light to medium but it is definitely not a product that can cover discoloration, acne or severe redness. I tried to layer it a little bit but it didn't seem to offer a great improvement - coverage wise even after 2 layers, instead started caking up a little around my nose and between my eyebrows.
My problem with it was that it was definitely not long lasting. After a few hours of wearing it, I noticed that it started disappearing mostly from the center of my face. Around the cheeks it started breaking down, making my pores quite visible. I have a dry to normal skin and it made me a little bit shiny which is rarely the case with any foundation I use and I suspect people with very oily skin are not going to appreciate this product at all, since in my experience it doesn't seem to control the sebum particularly well. It doesn't dry or settle and always stays sticky to the touch.
Overall this product was a miss for me. Not terrible, I might use it here and there but definitely would not recommend it or repurchase it.
The Cover - Up Concealer on the other hand is pretty awesome. I did enjoy it very much and I even considered repurchasing until the other day I didn't realize that I somehow have managed to use it up after less than a month of use. It contains only 2,2g of product and its price is 59kr (6 euro).
It has a doe foot applicator, it is super convenient to use and from the moment I spotted it out on the shelf I knew it was coming home with me.
The formula is creamy and it blends into the skin like a dream. It works wonders combined with a beauty blender and best part is that while it dries down a little bit doesn't settle into the fine lines under my eyes. It doesn't provide the most coverage known to man and if you really struggle with under eye circles I am pretty sure you will not like it. To me it is a rather decent everyday concealer that also manages to cover quite well the occasional spot on my face.
The more I used it, the more I liked it and at this point I can say that I recommend it. I was definitely not happy by how fast I used it up and because of that would probably not repurchase it for now at least.
The Precision Eye Marker was another hit in my book and a month after I purchased it it hasn't dried out and the tip is still sharp and usable. I was so happy to find a budget liner that I like and with a price tag of 59kr (6 euro) it is a definite must-have if you enjoy this kind of a product.
It has a matte finish and dries down quite fast, I did not experience any smudging, smearing or crumbling. The formula is not waterproof so I am not sure how well it would perform in a humid or rainy climate but in the Swedish reality it serves its purpose.
The tip as I said is still in a great condition (which is rare) and allows me to make thin or thick lines, depending on what effect I want to achieve. The colour is black, opaque and goes on very evenly onto the eyes. All in all it is a good product and I am sure a lot of you will enjoy having it.
The Gossamer Lip Stain in the shade Gauzy Mauve on the other hand was terrible. It looks purple-ish when swatched but once applied it becomes darker almost immediately and turns into a pink-brown-red weirdness which on me didn't look terrible but wasn't what I was after either. It dries down fast and doesn't leave a sticky feeling behind, it has a funny smell and a sweet taste which I didn't enjoy but I was able to tolerate.
Leaving the colour aside, what made me dislike it is that after not that long time on my lips the lip stain starts gathering on small balls near the border of my lips if by any chance I talk too much, eat or drink (as well as not leaving it completely to dry down). It is not avoidable - at least in my case and I would never wear it again most likely.
A huge disappointment. I am not sure about the price - it was around 79kr (8 euro).
Eye Fidelity Primer is the only eyeshadow base they currently offer. It comes in a tiny tube of 5ml which doesn't seem all that much at first but upon using I established that the smallest amount of product is needed to cover well both eyelids. It has a nude beige tone to it and covers some minor discoloration and veins. To be honest for some reason I am not loving it. I am just not convinced that it makes my eyeshadow last and as a whole failed to impress me. I definitely prefer my Urban Decay primer potion which enhances the intensity of my eyeshadow as well as making it last all day looking great. The H&M was not terrible but I just don't feel it was the right product for me.
It costs around 79kr (8 euro).
Their new nail polishes on the other hand are absolutely amazing and I can highly recommend them. I bought the shade Go-To Greige and I have been using it several times already. It never fails to impress me. Super opaque formula, applies evenly and looks great even after 1 layer (I always use 2), lasts even on my nails for days and the colour is just perfect for this time of the year. If you plan to buy only one thing from H&M's new cosmetics line, that should be it!
All nail polishes cost 49kr (5 euro).
H&M's tweezers were not my favourite item of theirs in the past and it was nice to see that this new one is not bad at all. I have to see for how long it will stay sharp but so far so good. It costs 49kr (5 euro).
The last product I bought is the Beauty Blender alternative they offer. I love my BB, it is something I use everyday and nothing will ever compare to how I feel about it.
This particular one is definitely not a bad one and I do reach for it from time to time. It is definitely a lot more stiff and doesn't bounce up and down the skin the way BB does it, but it gets the job done and it leaves the face with a nice finish. What I don't like is that it seems to take away from the coverage of my foundation and I need to layer it in order to achieve the same effect I would with my regular BB.
The sponge costs only 29kr (3 euro) and I would say that it is worth trying.
That was everything I chose to buy at least for now. Overall I did like the products, not sure if I would buy them again and use them regularly - mostly because I have a large collection and plenty to choose from. The two products which found a permanent place in my life were the nail polish and eyeliner. Will definitely grab myself some more shades to play with and would gladly share my experience in future posts.

Hi Jeni! Thanks for the info about the nail polish. Do you have any idea where can I find the Art.No. listed on the H&M site on the bottle itself? I bought 3 shades, unfortunately I cannot find them online, but I would like to know their number. Thanks!

Hello and thank you for your comment! I checked my bottles now and actually they do not have a number, only the name has a sticker on the back side - opposite the golden H&M logo. On the bottom there is some kind of a number, mine is 12541, but besides that there is nothing else I see. I am so sorry not being able to help you :(
DeleteHey :) I was at H&M yesterday, wanting to by the concealer. However, they were all in a mess and there weren't testers on all of them, so I ended up not getting one. What color do you have yours in?
ReplyDeleteHey, Liz! Thank you so much for your comment :) I am sorry to hear they didn't have any testers and you couldn't get yourself the concealer.
DeleteI have the shade Ivory and it is perfect for me. Usually I wear NC15 in MAC, maybe you can use it as a reference.
Good luck! ;)
