Barry M - Flawless Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit

It is almost impossible not to notice how popular the topic of contouring has been lately. Not that long ago  a good sculpting powder with the right undertone was difficult to find, today pretty much every brand under the sun has released their version of a contouring product to match the trend.

A few particular palettes from several high-end brands are mentioned constantly by bloggers and vloggers and while I sure they are just as good as everyone says they are, such palettes are definitely not the right choice for everyone.
The idea of having all of your highlighters, brightening, bronzing and contouring powders/creams in one small box is very convenient but for someone as fair as me this is not the best possible solution. I definitely do not need a few different shades of everything and I would much prefer to have just those that will match my skin tone correctly.

Of course if you are someone who likes to tan a lot, or maybe you use a sunless tanner often, such a palette would be an excellent choice and I perfectly understand why you would be needing it.

I decided to do my research and I was pleased to find an item by the budget-friendly British brand - Barry M, which looked exactly like what I was looking for and I decided to grab it.
Flawless Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit by Barry M is a small and compact palette which includes three powders - a highlighter/setting powder with an yellow undertone and two shades of brown to shade and sculpt the face.
I ordered mine from  www.asos.com for about 8,5 euro, (without shipping, free for orders above 30 euro) where at the moment it is sold-out but I am sure it will be restocked soon.

The packaging is made out of a cardboard, it is not overly bulky but not particularly sleek either. I was not impressed by its design, I don't dislike it, especially considering the price point, but it is definitely not something that grabbed my attention in any way.
The lid closes with the help of a magnet, which by the way is not that strong. So far I have not been having issues with it, but it is something to have in mind.

I appreciate the fact that the powders are spaced well, it gives the opportunity differently sized/shaped brushes to be used.

The ingredient list is listed on the bottom of the palette as well as the weight. 7.5g for all three -  2.5g each which is definitely not bad, again considering the price.

I already mentioned at the beginning that it includes three different powders :

- A light highlighter with a beige/yellow undertone, has a satin finish. It is suitable both as a highlighter as well as a setting powder under the eyes.
- A lighter and warmer - red toned brown and a darker grayish one. Both have a matte finish.

There is only one version of this palette, at least right now. Take that into consideration in case you decide to get it for yourself.

According to the packaging the middle shade is the bronzing one and it is meant to be used where the sun hits us first - in the middle of the forehead, upper part of the cheeks and middle of the nose.
The darkest brown is the actual contouring shade and it is meant to be used wherever we want to create a shade - under the cheekbone, sides of the nose and the temples.

All of the powders have soft textures which I find to be rather powdery too. Especially depending on which brush you will use for the application, there can be a lot of fallout. That and the fact that the pigmentation is very intense, can be problematic and I highly recommend to remove the excess product before applying it on the skin.
All three blend very easily and I personally didn't meet any challenges. There are no streaky or muddy lines left and the product doesn't disappear either. It was easy to work with and didn't require any skills or a particular technique.

I was not impressed by the highlighter and I am not sure if I will ever use it, having in mind I would much rather prefer one of the others I own and like way more.
On my skin tone it shows up way too yellow and doesn't really brighten or highlight anything. I tried to use it under the eyes and I can say that it is too dark and noticeable.

The bronzing shade surprised me, I was sceptical at first, since it is definitely more red than I expected it to be but it blends so nicely into the skin and gives this almost sunburned look to the face. I can see a lot of people enjoying it, especially if you already have a little bit of a tan.

My favourite in the pallete is the sculpting powder. It is the perfect combination between brown and grey, doesn't look dirty on the face and it really gives a wonderful chiseled effect to the face. It is definitely a good product, very pigmented and with a lovely formula, the star in the palette and what makes it worth trying.

When it comes to lasting power, I can say that mostly depends on the base and how good it was blended. It lasts a good few hours on the face, but depending on the day a touch-up might be needed.

In conclusion I can say that this palette is a little gem and I can see a lot of people enjoying it. It might be the right solution for you if you are looking for a cheaper alternative to all of those pricey palettes that are popular right now.
